College Rock is dead, do you hear me? D E A D!
I was under the impression a few years ago that the genre of college rock was officially dead with the passing of Hootie sans his Blowfish into the white trash world of country music. I, however, could not have been more wrong. The other day while working out (another story) I was watching MTV. Not to see Snookie beat a Bitch down, for The Situation, but because they were actually showing music videos. I have to admit that I was also in the dark on my knowledge that MTV still showed music videos. Anyways, one video stood out and almost made me injure myself. When the title box for the video rolled across the screen, I thought to myself “WTF, they are going to play a flashback video, why would they play these Douche Bags?” Then I realized that this was not a flashback video but a new video. It was at that moment my feelings for MTV turned from “Aren’t they sad” to “I hate your mother for having you”. This video was made by the only group that I could hate more than Hanson (shhhhh, secret love), Nickelback. Yes you read that right, Nickelback has made a comeback and rebranded themselves as “College Rock” (BARF). The video starts out with them being kidnapped (but not killed) to play at a frat party. This plot is so implausible to me that it might as well be a SyFy original movie. The video then goes on to show them rocking out the party and enjoying life in a poppy, guitar-filled college world. Why can’t they just be the whiney, self absorbed, wannabe Christians we all know and hate? You know what? I just had the best idea of my life! I also hate Adam Lambert and I can answer his question “What do you want from me?” I want your tour bus to run into Nickelback’s bus and both of them burst into HELL-type flames, cuz we all know that is where you no-talent-hacks are heading anyways.
